Dolphin filter full light stays on

Double-check before purchasing

  • Filter full indicator behaviour and reset procedure varies between Dolphin model generations — consult your model-specific manual.

The Problem

The filter full indicator on a Dolphin power supply or app signals that the robot's internal flow sensor has detected reduced suction — indicating the filter needs cleaning. If the light stays on after cleaning, the sensor may be stuck, or the filter is not correctly reinstalled.

Steps

  1. 1

Remove the filter basket and rinse it thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.

  2. 2

Reinstall the filter and press it firmly into its housing until it clicks or seats fully. Check for any gap around the edge.

  3. 3

Start a fresh cycle. On most models, the filter indicator clears automatically when the flow sensor detects restored suction.

  4. 4

If the light persists with a clean, correctly seated filter, check the impeller cavity for packed debris.

  5. 5

Perform a full reset: unplug the PSU from the wall, disconnect the cable, wait 90 seconds, then reconnect.

  6. 6

If the indicator still appears after a reset with a clean filter, the flow sensor or indicator circuit may need professional diagnosis.

Possible Causes & Solutions

common

Filter genuinely full and needs cleaning

Remove, rinse, and reinstall the filter. On most models, the indicator clears automatically on the next cycle start once flow is restored.

common

Filter cleaned but not fully seated, still restricting flow

A filter that is not clicked fully into its housing creates a bypass gap that keeps flow restricted. Remove and firmly reseat the filter until it locks in place.

occasional

Impeller blocked despite a clean filter

If the filter is clean and correctly seated but the indicator persists, check the impeller cavity. Packed debris around the impeller restricts flow independently of the filter.

occasional

Flow sensor stuck in the triggered state after the filter has been cleaned

Perform a full reset: unplug the PSU, disconnect the cable, wait 90 seconds, then reconnect. This clears any stuck sensor state.

occasional

Filter mesh degraded, consistently blocking faster than expected

An aged or fine-mesh filter fills much faster than a new standard mesh. If the indicator trips after a very short cycle, the filter may need replacing or the mesh grade reviewing.

When to Replace

Clean the filter after every use. Replace the filter when the mesh is torn or when it blocks significantly faster than when new (indicating mesh degradation).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the filter full light mean I should stop the cycle?

Yes. A triggered filter indicator means suction is reduced. Continuing the cycle with a full filter cleans poorly and may strain the pump motor. Clean the filter and restart.

Why does my Dolphin's filter fill so quickly?

A fine or ultra-fine mesh filter fills faster than standard mesh, as does cleaning a pool with heavy leaf fall or algae growth. If it fills in every short cycle, consider running the filter pump between robot cycles.

How do I know if the sensor is faulty rather than the filter being full?

Clean the filter, reseat it, and perform a reset. If the indicator appears immediately on a confirmed clean and correctly seated filter, the sensor may be faulty — contact Maytronics support.
