Troubleshooting guide
Dolphin power supply no light
The Problem
When the Dolphin power supply shows no indicator light at all — no blink, no steady glow — the PSU is receiving no mains power, has an internal fuse blown, or has completely failed. This is distinct from blink codes, which indicate the PSU has power but has detected a fault.
Steps
- 1
Plug a different device into the same outlet to confirm it has power. If GFCI-protected, look for and press the reset button on the outlet.
- 2
Plug the PSU directly into a wall outlet — remove any power strip, extension lead, or surge protector from the circuit.
- 3
Check the mains cable from the PSU to the plug for visible damage or loose connections.
- 4
Try the PSU on a different outlet on a separate circuit.
- 5
Connect the PSU without the floating cable attached. If there is still no light on a confirmed working outlet, the PSU has failed.
- 6
If the PSU is confirmed dead, order a replacement. Do not attempt to open the PSU — internal capacitors carry dangerous voltages.
Possible Causes & Solutions
The wall outlet has no power, or a GFCI outlet has tripped
Test the outlet with a lamp or phone charger. If GFCI-protected, press the reset button on the outlet face. Try a different outlet on a different circuit.
Power strip or extension cord has failed or been switched off
Dolphin pool robots should be plugged directly into a wall outlet — not into a power strip or extension lead. Plug the PSU directly into a dedicated outdoor GFCI outlet.
Internal PSU fuse has blown
Some Dolphin PSU models have an accessible fuse. If the unit shows no light on a confirmed working outlet, an internal fuse may have blown. The PSU will need professional repair or replacement.
Power supply unit has completely failed
PSUs can fail silently — no indication, no blink. If the outlet has power and the cable is correctly connected and the PSU remains dark, the unit has failed and needs replacement.
Power cable from wall to PSU is damaged or disconnected
Inspect the mains cable from the PSU plug to the unit body for any cuts, chafing, or kinks. A damaged mains cable is a serious safety hazard — do not use the PSU and contact Maytronics.
When to Replace
A completely dead PSU with no indicator on a working outlet should be replaced. PSUs typically last 3–5 seasons. Order a model-specific OEM replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a completely dark PSU different from a blinking PSU?
Yes. A blinking PSU has power and is communicating a fault code. A completely dark PSU has either no mains power at all, or has failed entirely with no output. Diagnose these separately.
My PSU was working yesterday — why is it completely off now?
Check the outlet first. GFCI outlets trip under fault conditions and must be manually reset. A PSU left in direct sunlight or exposed to rain can also fail suddenly.
Can I use a third-party PSU if mine has failed?
Maytronics strongly recommends OEM PSUs because voltage and current profiles are model-specific. An incorrect PSU can damage the robot control board.
